Site Frequently-Asked Questions

[line break]
This site is semi-nifty. What software do you use to make it?
I write my HTML using a great shareware program called Pagespinner. It's Mac-only, but it's the best app I have ever found for this kind of thing. I use Ambrosia Software's Snapz Pro to take all my screenshots (assigned F13 as my capture key). This little control panel is excellent and does its job easily and unobtrusively. Finally, I use Adobe Photoshop 4.0 along with the Eye Candy 3.0 filters for preparing the images. I upload the results to my SGI server using Fetch.

I do the daily news edits directly by rlogging into server and using vi (a powerful but somewhat cryptic UNIX text editor). My geekiness is starting to show I think...

You're a Mac user then?
Yup. I use a Mac because I like them better than PCs. I use SGI and HPUX workstations all day long at work, but I have three Macs at home. I am not a PC hater, I just prefer the Mac. I want to encourage Mac and PC users alike to come to my site and learn about Myth.

How do I get past (some level not yet posted here)?
I am posting levels as often as I have time to do so. It takes me about an hour to create each walkthrough, because I have to watch the film, take screenshots (getting the best angle, etc), decide what to write, etc. I also have a real job where I work full time, plus a wife that doesn't want me sitting at the computer all night when I get home. If you are really stuck on a level, email me at david@theresistance.net and I'll try to answer your questions or send you a film of the level.

Why do you go by SatanTM?
The name is what I used in Marathon games long ago (my guy wore a bright red suit) because my best friend was Lord Danzig, and I wanted something in the same vein. The trademark is because I have had other people impersonate me on bungie.net during the beta test (unknowingly, I'm sure). I wanted people to be sure it was me when they were playing me.

Help! I'm trying to open some of your Myth movies, but Myth doesn't know what to do with them.
The Mac films are in Stuffit format. Use Stuffit Expander to uncompress them. If you are a Mac user getting the Zip films, use the Film Autotyper on the Films Page to set the type and creator for you. Then put them in Myth:tags:reco: . If you are a PC user, then you don't have to set the type and creator. Just unzip the films and put them in C:\Myth\tags\reco\ (or whichever folder you have Myth installed in).

They will then be available within the Myth "Saved Films" option. If you are a PC user and are still having problems, make sure the film has no extension, and that the name is in ALL CAPS. I have heard that these things can help.

Does Myth have cheat codes? What are they?
A few. We (the beta testers) were asked whether we wanted them (most said they were needed, even if we didn't want to use them). I do know that some "cheats" do exist, like the well known spacebar-newgame trick. There's also another one to instantly "win" a level: hit control and the "+" key on the keypad. Finally, there is the "fetch bug" in versions 1.1 and older of Myth. It's a bug, so I will not disclose how it works if you don't know. It is fixed as of version 1.2 or later of Myth.

Is there any such thing as a game save editor for Myth? I would so love to be able to add 20 drawves to my ranks.
You cannot edit saved games like this, because all saved games are is a list of your actions as you progress through the levels. The Myth engine does all the rest of the work. Saved Games do not contain any information about what units you have at a given time.

What you can do is edit the maps themselves. This area is one of much interest in the Myth community right now. The tools are still in their infancy, however, so if you're not that stout-hearted it might be worthwhile to wait a little while before you delve in. If you do feel brave, look in my news and links for some sites that keep this kind of information. BTW, until Bungie says otherwise, please do not use edited maps on Bungie.net. This will probably change in the future, but let's behave in the mean time.

Send in your questions and I'll try to answer them!
